North Vancouver Schools and Catchments: A Guide for Home Buyers

Handsworth Secondary in North Vancouver

When you’re looking for a home in North Vancouver, schools may be a big part of your decision. But choosing a neighbourhood involves more than finding a school nearby. It’s also about the morning school run, your commute and how the area fits your family’s everyday life.

This guide introduces seven local public schools and explains how to check the school catchment for a property before you buy.

Start with the exact property address

A neighbourhood name or a nearby school is only a starting point. Use the North Vancouver School District’s official locator, then confirm placement and registration questions directly with the district.

How to check a school catchment

  1. Open the official district map and School Locator. Search using the full residential address.
  2. Check the relevant elementary and secondary catchments. If the district map and locator differ, the district says the locator is used.
  3. Contact the district about your child’s grade, intended start date, available space and any program application requirements.
  4. Confirm the information before making your home purchase decision. Save the district’s response with your home search notes.

Look beyond the catchment boundary

Try the school route during a typical weekday. Consider hills, crossings, childcare, activities and your commute, as well as the home’s layout and your budget. A school address alone does not tell you how the neighbourhood will work for your family.

Questions home buyers ask

Is the closest school always my catchment school?

Do not assume it is. Check the exact home address in the district’s School Locator rather than relying on distance or a listing description.

Does buying in a catchment guarantee a school place?

A catchment address is not an unconditional guarantee of placement. Available physical and program space can affect placement. Confirm the current requirements directly with the district.

Should I check schools before making an offer?

Yes. If a particular school is central to your move, confirm the address, catchment and relevant registration requirements before relying on that school in your buying decision.

What if my child needs a particular program?

Ask the district about the program’s locations, eligibility, application process and available space. A regular catchment result does not by itself confirm a place in a particular program.
